“Pakidi samal jatha” a revolution movement by farmers during British raj have still impacts after 120 years.
Arjit Singh founder of saml jatha movement, was born in kadkar kalan of district jalander on 23 Feb 1881.Arjit singh was the uncle of the famous revolutionist BAGAT SINGH and the elder brother of soveren Singh who died in jail at the hands of the British.
source: bbc.comArjit Singh done his matriculation from SAI DAS ANGLO SASKIRIT SCHOOL after which he moves to Barali to done graduation in law, He was married to a qasori girl now in Pakistan names harnam kor. In 1906 he attends a congress meeting under the chairmanship of dada bai Ambedkar in Calcutta, where he meets Gangadhar Tilak, he was so inspired by him that after his return he formed a society with his brothers called as Baharat Mata society where they involved in the publication of literature against British raj.
In 1907 Indian parliament try to implement a law, which indirectly provides land grabbers to capture the land of farmers and favor the government to have more taxation than usual, all the situation create agitation in Arjit singh he stood against this law and appear as the leader of kisaan movement across Punjab.
During these strikes and meetings, one of the greatest gather held in layerpur march 1907, nowadays called Faisalabad, LALA BANKA DIYAL owner of JANK SIYAL a magazine to motivate locals politically, sung a poetry “pakidi sambal jathiya” which become the soul name of the kissen movement.
Almost 33 meetings are held across the subcontinent under “pakdi sambal jathiya” movement and almost 19 meetings are held under the chairmanship of ARJIT SINGH, government detect hi, as a threat and looking for tactics to tackle the situation, 0n 21 April 1907 he made a controversial speech in Rawalpindi, for which he charged for hate speech against British and trialed under 124 section of Indian panel code.
People thought that PAKDI SAMBAL JATIYA, the movement has still its impact in recent farmers strike across India which is again done by Sikhs of India.
