Women’s anchors should cover faces! Threat by Taliban
The previous Sunday, most of the national tv
reporters and anchors are have to cover their faces when appear on-screen on
the order of the Taliban.
receiving the new order, most of
the anchors are resistant and not willing to do it, but the employer forces them
to do it under severe threat. One of the official TV anchors said this may be
the tip of the ice burg along with the orders from the Taliban regime.
In addition, when the Taliban
come into power they order that on the streets women should wear hijab, but now
they told that all national TV channels
should force their employees to wear hijab or cover their faces during the bulletins
or any other program.
Initially that this order is overruled
by the many segments of society, but the officials ordered that anyone who does
not follow the Islamic law face the punishment, and loss their job. Human rights
activists said that it is clear sabotage of women’s rights and freedom of speech.
Sonia Niazi one of the top anchors
in Tolo news said that as resistance and protest she wears a mask instead of a hijab,
she also adds that in the next step female anchor may disappear completely from
the TV frame.
Whereas most Islamic clerics said
that women are not forced to cover their faces in public, despite Taliban officials
becoming more and more strict as they gain more and more power, by forcing separate
classes, parks, and office time for women.
